rrose is a recording artist for sandwell district, eaux and stroboscopic artefacts labels - james tenny was an electronic & computer music pioneer and one of americas greatest composers short info: rrose has found her own niche in the american techno underground. her hypnotic tracks incorporate ideas from ambient and minimalist music as prominently as they do the history of dance music, operating in the same fruitful cross-section between techno and the abstract as many other further records releases. the vinyl ep includes a postcard and download code.

starting in 1990 recording for sheffield label ozone records under the name of panic with a release called voices of energy, which was then licensed to buzz in belgium, buzz 001, buzz then went on to release classics by carl craig and derrick may. he set up his own label in the same year solid groove records. the label had 30 vinyl releases over thirteen years and tracks were licensed by derrick may, terry francis, pete tong, adam x, and carl cox.as well as this he ran another four other label s, textures, dark, dot, and cheap knob gags.

last year we released aaron ahrends first brief embrace ep, which received lots of great feedback. ada (pampa) took newborn and started to do a remix. at the same time she took some larvae as pets and watched their metamorphosis. at the end she released them as butterflies. the tune was highly recommended at here bbqs over the last summer. last year the forgotten birds (karaoke kalk) decided to stop touring as a band. their first and might be last remix at all was created spontaneously in a jam session. enough reason for to be very happy about their awesome gift.

still/current was composed for choreographer russell maliphants duet of the same name by long-time collaborator mukul, and commissioned by sadlers wells, london. the idea of a physical, published record was born during rehearsals of the duet, for which rysunku founder jan urbanowski had designed video projections. it is the second release on the label after jan s own ep under the alias yahshu. rysunku releases innovative sound work in very limited numbered vinyl editions. initial releases are designed by renowned art collective tomato

the music strahil velchev alias kink creates for the 12-inch format is as playful and fanciful as it is functional and precise. his first outing for running back is no exception. inspired by the hardware of the same name, his cloud generator ep makes the most use of that. computer nerd symphonies and cyberpunk melodies for clubs, roofless raves and virtual racing games. wilhelm reich and william gibson would enjoy this. oh, and there is a breakbeat mix on here as well.

hardmon london is back with its fourth release, signed by the mysterious jay green. the concept is still the same: the achieved sound as most important element and obviously, it goes without saying, forget using a computer if you want to join the hardmoon london crew.

hot on the heels of introducing a new chilean talent to the mos ranks with its last release, the dutch label starts another international affair for its mos deep offshoot: romanian andrew red hand. andrew, who has been called the romanian underground resistance, has a long history of djing and making detroit inspired techno and electro and across four tracks here, his analogue house with crisp drums and searing acid all burst out of the speakers and into your affections.

midgar is proud to introduce a newcomer for the third release. a great debut for the maltese cloned, delivering not less than 4 cuts with sapphire 1990 e.p. the record, way more straightforward and groove centered than the previous midgar outputs, opens with sapphire 1990, track that sounds like very nostalgic memories from a timeless rave. thanks to a genuine simplicity and the great arrangement of its elements, this first cut has the perfect characteristics to become a dancefloor anthem. on the same side, a live out-take from cloned’s repertory, the pendulum swinging synth-lines which dominate pretty direct rhythmics filled with hi-hats and claps over a costant background noise. belgassem as the first cut on the b side, is an absolutely heavy one for the label’s standards, made of deep kickin’ drums and haunting voices empowered by a really strong and obsessive acid-line. closing the vinyl, the slow (and again really acidic) submerging is like a lysergic vessel headed to more comfortable dimensions, where groovy drums are embraced by very bright heavenly pads. sudden death is instead a chilled-out broken beat interrupted by confused speeches and detroitish pads, resulting as a modern ritual of ascension towards higher spheres. corel drives the release to the end, recalling most of its main features: a restless run through misty soundscapes along a path studded of bells and overwhelming, sharp hi-hats.

taking a few steps off it’s usual housy path, metereze presents a fresh new face and a more techno approach to dance music. it is melodie that signs the 4th installment and he is taking it deep into the realms of acid with 3 tracks that not only go well together but they are all meant to make you move in a big way.
acid sunday is as acidic as the name suggests it but in the end it’s the most poetic of the 3. the subtle pads are kinda dreamy but the 303 sounds make it super driving. on the same side we have rhythmico which is dark, percussive and powerful. subtle background bleeps complete the wandering synth that comes and goes but never really seems to go away.
housed on side b justa is a techno monster in its own right. sonically very close to the other two, this is by far the darkest track on this ep. and probably the strongest. techno infused house you may call it or whatever, this is the kind of track that puts you on a serious move whenever, wherever.

organic textures, hypnotism and melancholy feature heavily in marino s sound and are once again evident in the percolate ep. as its name suggests, the title track bubbles with dancefloor tension whilst its tight groove never quite reaches boiling point. can t feel, on the flip, is more of the same. deep, atmospheric and understated, a perfect example of marino s blossom talent.

nail provides the lead track for fofs latest vinyl only excursion - originally produced in the same time period as the classic tracks on the ode rammel reissue ep earlier in the year, glazed lay dormant on one of nails dats for many years before being rediscovered and given its first airing now on fof. chunky roughed up house beats are the order of the day here, a real peak time groove. new talent harry mccanna, resident at londons infamous undersound nights, debuts with act 1, a beautifully subtle bassline driven groove that rises above the pack with its super warm pad lending the track a warm and fuzzy hypnotic edge. romanian talent zece kicks off the flipside with the most contemporary offering, a breakbeat laden groove with a fx laden vocal snatch underpinned by that all important b-line whilst sonodab rounds things off with a beautifully deep and melodic slice of electro on brown study, the percussive elements giving rise to a hazy melodic pattern for those early hour excursions.

we started the classic series featuring tracks that we love, bought, played out and which we have the feeling more people should know about them. for this first edition, it is a great honor for us to welcome such a living legend, a pioneer from the chicago house scene: mr k alexi shelby! at the age of 12 he was already moving in the right circles, befriending frankie knuckles and ron hardy whilst frequenting the famous warehouse. his upbringing in chicago in the 70s and 80s meant that he was exposed to a range of genres and different styles of music including stevie wonder, prince, curtis mayfield and david huff. these same names would prove to be the roots of his influences. this projet includes two classic and timeless moments of chicago house & techno music.

the detroit music community has outposts in nearly every major city, and vancouver, british columbia is no exception. this ep represents the connection of two such artists, detroit native, josh garrett, who currently resides in vancouver and runs the subspec label, and rennie foster, a stalwart of the underground, who has spent a quarter of his life in tokyo, but born in bc and now living back there, in vancouver. rennie has released on a myriad of detroit labels, such as transmat, teknotika, soiree, subject detroit, wallshaker, and motech. josh and rennie met in vancouver, only since rennies recent return, and realizing they were of the same tribe, immediately began to collaborate on a number of projects, now including this limited run, double a-side, record, chalk full of dj friendly techno trax, firmly rooted in the motor city sound, yet unique enough to be a contributor, not just another imitator.

isabel, the first of a new attic series dedicated to hurricanes, is the latest ep signed by fabrizio lapiana on his own label and including remixes from reeko (mental disorder / pole group) and max_m (m_rec ltd). lapiana delivers two tracks with mighty and warm bassdrum, hihats and evolving percussions everywhere focused on diffuse electric click and vivid minimalism. the pole group artist shapes “dfract” into a more bodily and harder structure while the m_rec boss takes the same track and makes its own atmospheric and ultra-rhythmic style. proper dirty dancefloor techno of the highest order.

last few years have seen barac capturing the very soul of the romanian underground in a very productive yet very unreleased manner. few carefully selected tracks have been released while others are probably kept for the right moment. with his album on metereze running hot and a new label under his command barac is for sure the man of the hour. better yet, the man of the moment. for the first instalment of his new moment imprint he teams up with friend and fellow producer vincent iulian. these two go way back and they have a lot of history together. music wise they share the same passion for driving mysterious tech grooves and theory ep is all about that. in form is groovy and dark with a haunting synth accompanied by subtle xylophones. on the other side we take a dive in the atmospheric breaks grooves of in colour. uplifting and mysterious with the right amount of balls to keep you going.

having established deepsystems as a radio show some years back, matt pond (one third of the bittersuite collective) has decided to launch a record label under the same name. given his contacts, it s a smart move. two close pals - bittersuite member jon gray and dan 1dan rodgers - join forces as tales ov rossi, laying down a slowly shifting chunk of deep, heads-down house that stretches across one side of the 12-. on the flip, gray goes solo under the bittersuite banner, delivering the two-part -familiar currents-. both versions sound heavily inspired by the dense percussion, expansive musicality and rich soundscapes of ron trent.

g2014 is over and downbeat records, is back with a new release. jose rico and urtzi, come back again with another 4 tracks vinyl. memories from another life and no back memory are two deep house pearls with minimal sequences and emotional synths made by urtzi. at the same time, jose rico is the responsible for the mechanical and powerful aint, and the percussive and ethereal small island, probably one of his best tracks so far. and, as they did with that space is the place ep, they have made here a consistent release, setting their personal view of the dance music.

the common thread of the three songs contained in it is definitely the rhythm, on which glide sounds and tangles of micro melodies. the title track also is reinterpreted in the remix of rush arp & maurice giovannini, continuing on the same path marked minimalist hypnotism, a defined time microhouse.

sam irl returns to jazz & milk with his latest *free two grow ep*, two years after his last solo release for the label (*slower bavarian ep*, 2012). he has continued to develop his sample- & analogue synthesizer-based music further, keeping things raw and warm at the same time. the ep starts off with the title track *free two grow*, an mpc live jam built around a hypnotic loop slowly developing into a heavy synth-driven deep house tune.

the cops are back on out-­&#8208,er and they came with their typical and unmistakable raw sound. it consists in 4 swinging crispy house tracks, deep atmospheres meet techno into a journey that will bring you straight into the anlogue cops’ dimension. on the flip, 2 collaboration with great injuries and stanley a take place to complete this totally analogue project. what makes this release so concrete and at the same time old school is the tape recording that characterize the whole ep, in it all the sounds are melted and result very consistent.

the km editions series, admirably helmed by the mysterious keyboard masher, has always been one of the more interesting re-edit/rework labels. past installments have touched on krautrock, disco, balearica, funk, italo and what can only be described as electronic oddities. this sixth volume offers up three more impressively remixed, overdubbed and reedited gems. theres naturally much to admire, not least the omd style woozy synth-pop of stolen shapes (stealing rework), which should tickle the fancy of anyone of a balearic disposition. the same can be said about the immersive, sun-kissed pianos and shuffling grooves of -astral playground. there s also a chunk of silly but, perversely, rather good french cod-reggae in the shape of le cod-, arguably our pick of a strong bunch.

waze & oddyseys w&o streetracks imprint pulls together the likes of eliphino, ejeca, citizen and xxxy for its first (unmixed) compilation released this winter, w&o streettracks vol 1. having clocked up eight releases on street tracks, its the ideal time to throw down a milestone and document the sound of the label in one package and w&o street tracks does so with panache. the result of waze & oddysseys plunge into their address book is a 12 track compilation that neatly reflects modern house music. ejeca, citizen and w&o themselves sit alongside newcomers like mediman and sage caswell while the emergent talents of new jack city and eliphino make for a nicely profiled piece of work

ian pooley initiates his new techno label montage by resurrecting his silvershower alias. best known for a pair of 12inchs released on richie hawtins plus 8 in 1996 (with a further ep released on the same label in 2011), silvershower has been pooleys preferred alias for his tougher, darker records for nearly 20 years.

in about 2003 i did some work for deepfunk and northern soul legend keb darge and as was the way back then i received payment in vinyl. included in the pile was this little detroit number which i instantly fell in love with. in 1980 david mcmurray and adell shavers and david mcmurray (who went on to be a member of 80s hit band was not was) wrote and produced this amazing detroit modern / boogie 45 which for some reason suffered the same fate of many of aotn releases and disappeared from history. but thanks to the generation of collectors before me this gem sat safely in northern collection such as kebs for years waiting for its day in the sun. it only got limited play but recently the record has had a resurgence in popularity and value which it deserves. after a tip off from jason stirland (soulstax records) i found david mcmurray and it was wonderful to find he was keen to help me bring this wonderful 45 back into the limelight. so here we are…
